What is BLEPHAROPLASTY?
With the effect of aging and gravity, loosening, excess and sagging of the upper and lower eyelid skin are observed. However, sagging may occur, especially on the lower eyelids, due to the forward protrusion of the fat pads. This situation can also lead to a reduction in vision due to the drooping upper eyelids that close the anterior eye area, along with a deterioration in aesthetic appearance.
During blepharoplasty, excess skin, muscle tissue and fatty deposits on the eyelids are removed. In this way, both a beautiful appearance is achieved and the person can see comfortably. The operation is performed under surgical conditions and under local anesthesia with sedation.
Depending on the patient’s current condition, the upper and lower eyelids can be operated on separately, or both eyelids can be operated on at the same time.
Due to the placement along the fold of the upper eyelid and just below the eyelashes on the lower eyelid, the surgical scar is only visible when looking closely. The operation takes 1-1.5 hours on average and it is possible to go home the same day. Immediately after surgery, swelling and bruising can be reduced by 24 to 48 hours of cold treatment.
The early postoperative period is usually comfortable. Edema (swelling) and bruising of the eyelids, dryness, burning, stinging, and blurred vision may be observed in the eyes. The patient may not be able to fully close his or her eyes in the early postoperative period and may be uncomfortable with light. The stitches on the eyelids are usually removed after 5-7 days.
