What is RHINOPLASTY?
Rhinoplasty is one of the most frequently performed aesthetic surgical procedures in the world. With this operation, the size, shape and function of the nose can be corrected. By correcting the shape of the nose, the proportionate harmony of the nose with the face is achieved, while cartilage/bone deformities and turbinate problems can be treated.
Rhinoplasty is performed in two different ways, open and closed. The main difference between these two methods is the areas where the incisions are located. In the open technique, incisions are made between the tip of the nose and the lip (called columella). In the closed technique, the incisions are made in the nostrils, but the columella is not cut.
In both methods, the procedures, inside the Nose what is done, are the same. Regardless of the method used, a nose job can improve your appearance and boost your self-confidence. Some appearances and situations are not always possible with surgery. Before you make a decision about what you want from this surgery and why you want it, you should discuss all concerns and questions with your surgeon so you can make a positive decision.
Make sure you discuss all your doubts about the surgery with your surgeon. Rhinoplasty is one of the most difficult operations in plastic surgery. It should always be remembered that after rhinoplasty, even with an experienced plastic surgeon, there is a risk of complications (undesirable results).
Examples of serious complications are infections, nosebleeds, reaction to anesthesia, breathing difficulties and drooping of the nasal tip, asymmetry in the nostrils and persistence of the bulging structure on the bridge of the nose. According to the experience of the literature, out of 100 cases for 5-10 cases revision surgery is required.
As with any aesthetic surgery, the psychosocial and functional benefits after a successful nose correction have a positive effect on the quality of life. It should not be forgotten that every development in the field of plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery is aimed at increasing these gains in quality and quantity.
